A Sunset Hike with One of My Favorite Families

Some sessions feel more like an adventure than a photo shoot, and this one was exactly that. We took a short hike together up to the top of a hill, chasing the light as the sun dipped low and gave us the most beautiful sunset views. Exploring new little pockets along the way is always one of my favorite parts of a session—especially with a family that’s up for anything.

This family is always such a joy to photograph. Their kids are fun, curious, and adventurous, which makes every session feel relaxed and playful. We wandered, climbed, laughed, and yes… there may or may not have been a brief cactus incident—but it was quickly remedied and added to the memory bank. Moments like that are part of the story, and I love that they trust me enough to just roll with it.

What really stands out to me year after year is the bond between these siblings. It’s genuine, easy, and full of connection, and it shows so clearly in their photos. I’m always grateful for repeat clients like this—families who let me watch their kids grow, change, and become more themselves each year. They’re easygoing, willing to change outfits in the woods, and always open to trying new locations with me, which makes my job such a gift.

And can we talk about the weather? A gorgeous, 70-degree evening in late December here in Texas—soft light, warm air, and golden skies. Nights like this make me feel incredibly blessed to live and work here. This session was a perfect reminder of why I love what I do: beautiful light, meaningful connections, and families who feel more like friends every time I photograph them.
