A Joyful Young Family at Brushy Creek Lake Park
I spent the most precious evening with a young family at Brushy Creek Lake Park. I have a special place in my heart for parents who outnumber themselves (I know that brave, beautiful chaos well—I have three kids too!). From the moment they arrived, the kids were bursting with energy and ready to go, which is such a fun change from the usual first-15-minutes of shyness I often see, with little ones peeking out from behind a parent’s leg.
What struck me the most was the grace and calmness of their beautiful mother—absolutely radiant and yet so patient, gently reminding her toddler not to eat rocks while somehow making it look effortless. Dad kept the whole session light and moving, chatting and laughing with everyone, keeping spirits high and moments joyful.
The girls looked darling in their matching bishop-smocked dresses—such a timeless, classic look—and I loved how the session naturally flowed into two distinct tones. We started in the wooded area of Brushy Creek Lake Park and finished out in the bluebonnet field just as the light softened. The kids had a blast exploring both spots, and I truly enjoyed walking the trails with them, camera in hand.
Spring in Cedar Park has been so lush and green this year. Even with fewer bluebonnets than usual, we’ve managed to capture some truly stunning images, and this family’s session is no exception.
I sincerely hope I get the chance to photograph this adorable family again. It was such a joy spending the evening with them—capturing the love, the laughter, and those fleeting little in-between moments that make family life so rich.
