Spring Minis in the Texas Bluebonnets
This past weekend’s Texas Bluebonnet Mini Sessions at Brushy Creek Lake Park in Cedar Park reminded me how important it is to make the best of whatever the wildflower season brings. I scouted the area a week ahead and spotted some beautiful patches down by the lake, but it was clear this year’s bloom was sparser than usual. Knowing it would be busy, I emailed my families ahead of time so everyone knew what to expect. And yes, it was a bit of a bloodbath out there—photographers claiming little patches, signs going up, and groups waiting their turn. Another photographer and I shared a quick “what are we even doing” look, but I was determined to get my clients the spring family photos they came for.
Their 2.5-year-old son was having the best time running around and exploring with mom and dad—it was their first time getting professional photos of him, and those eyelashes! I spent extra time in editing to gently remove the crowds from the backgrounds so the images feel peaceful and intimate, like you have the flowers mostly to yourselves. My goal was to give every family a calm, happy space for their Spring family photos, even on a crowded evening.
I loved watching how much they adore their little guy, and it brings me so much joy to capture those real moments. My favorite shots came right at the end when they said, “Hey, can we do some with our sunglasses on?” Absolutely yes—those silly, fun photos are the best. Thank you to all my clients who rolled with the crowds at sunset for their Texas Bluebonnet Mini Session. Here’s hoping for a full, beautiful blanket of bluebonnets across the fields next year for everyone to enjoy!
